The story of The Hague

The Story of The Hague, launched in May 2007, is a new and original addition to the city’s range of cultural tourism products. It is a city walk for young and old alike and is designed to introduce participants to the city’s history. It is not only meant for individual tourists, but also for groups and specifically interesting for the many expats and other new residents now coming to live in The Hague. Led by a guide of Stichting ‘t Gilde, the tour starts with a visit to the Historical Museum near the Hofvijver, where you will see some great objects from The Hague's history, such as the 'Tongue and Toe'. Followed by a walk round the historic city centre and the Mesdag Quarter, the tour ends with a visit to Panorama Mesdag where you enter 'the biggest painting in the Netherlands', where you will experience the magical optical illusion of this fascinating 1881 panorama of Scheveningen. The two and a half hour program will be concluded with a drink. Explanations will be available in Dutch and English.

During the spring and summer season there are regular walks on specific weekdays and times for individuals. The 2007 summer season has ended, but the program will be continued in spring 2008. Aside from these seasonal regular walks, private group tours for 5 people and more are possible on other days and times all the year round, on application and by prior arrangement.

Reservations for the regular tours in summer season can be made via the Reservations department of Den Haag Marketing on +31 (0)70 338 5800 or by buying them at one of the Tourist Information Offices: Hofweg 1, Wagenstraat 193 and Gevers Deynootweg 1134 (Scheveningen).

Reservations for the group tours can be made, all the year around, via the Daytrips department of Den Haag Marketing on +31 (0)70 338 5800. Depending on the number of participants, the ticket prices are between EUR 13,00 and EUR 18,00 per person.
