Sea Life offers two types of children’s parties:
PIRATES PARTY
Report to the cashier where the children will be given pirate outfits and have their faces painted. A staff member will tell the children all about the treasure map of Captain Visbeen and instruct them to go in search of the treasure. To reach this treasure, they will need to answer all sorts of questions and complete assignments at the aquariums. In the meantime, they may also attend the regular daily programme at Sea Life, attending a lesson or the feeding presentation, for example. Finally they will reach the treasure that contains a handsome reward. Afterwards - or in between the activities, if preferred - the children can go for a meal at the restaurant where they can choose between French fries, a pancake, Dutch “poffertjes” or a hotdog. Everyone will also receive an ice-lolly and something to drink. Children who prefer to eat vegetables and meat may choose something from the children’s menu at the restaurant. This will cost EUR 2.50 extra. All of the pirate gear must be handed in again at the end of the day.
FISHING PARTY
Report to the cashier and one of our staff members will help you with the children. Their faces will be painted and they will receive a quiz sheet to take inside Sea Life. Here they will have to do a lot of counting, observe the fish, make drawings and answer questions. In between these activities they are also free to attend a lesson about sharks or a feeding presentation. Once they have finished, they can go to the activities table to start making a fish lantern for the birthday girl or boy. This is done partly under the supervision of a member of the entertainment staff, but the parents can join in, too. The group itself may determine when to go eat at the restaurant (the menu is the same as that of the Pirates Party) and for how long they want to stay.
The parties cater for the 5- to 11-year-old age group; the quiz is adapted to suit the age of the children.
The parties cost EUR 12.50 per child. For groups of five or more children, two adults may accompany them for free. A fee of EUR 8.50 will be charged for a third adult. When booking, you will also receive invitation cards that you can send out to the guests, if you like. Birthday parties can take place from Mondays to Fridays between 13:00 p.m. and 16:00 p.m. and on Saturdays from 11:00 a.m. to 15:00 p.m. No bookings are accepted for Sundays or during the school holidays. To make a reservation, please call (070) 354 2100 during office hours.
Koorenhuis, Centre for Arts and Culture
Stark raving mad! Completely crackers!! Doubly barmy!!! At the Koorenhuis you can go completely crazy. Maybe you’ve always wanted to learn how to play a musical instrument, or maybe you are passionate about dancing or photography. Or would you prefer lessons in acting or painting? You can even print your own book, or make your own jewellery or video. Everything and more is possible at the Koorenhuis. For family or children’s parties, for young and old, talk to us for a tailor-made workshop. All workshops take place from Mondays to Fridays between 9:00 a.m. and 22:30 p.m. and on Saturdays from 09:00 a.m. to 16:00 p.m.
A Chinese Style Children’s Party
There is a whole new way of celebrating a child’s birthday in The Hague. In an entirely Oriental style! The party kicks off with a treasure hunt called “The Flight of the Crane” through Chinatown. The children will drop in at a Chinese restaurant where they will attend a workshop entitled “Eating with Chopsticks”. Then they will go to the Chinatown Information Centre where they will learn how to write their name in calligraphy. And, of course, this special day would not be complete without an authentic Chinese treat and a good-luck present to take home.
This party is suitable for children aged 8-12 years and costs EUR 14.50 per person (minimum of 10 people). Reservations can be made by calling City Mondial at (070) 402 3336.
Boulodrome
Perhaps you’ve been on holiday in France where you saw people playing jeu de boules on the street. Perhaps you’ve been thinking that it would be fun to do something like this at your birthday party? At the Boulodrome in Leidschendam you can hire a lane and challenge your friends to a jeu de boules battle.
Scheveningen Bowling and Party Centre
At the Scheveningen Bowling Centre you can have the birthday of a lifetime. You can go ten-pin bowling with your friends under flashing disco lights while the Top-40 blares from the speakers. And you don’t have to worry that all your balls will end up in the gutters, because these have been closed off so the ball always stays in the lane! And after the game you can all go and enjoy a plate of French fries.
Viewing a Bunker Complex
The “Wassenaarse Slag” bunker complex was built by the occupying German forces in 1943 and has a network of underground tunnels totalling some 2,000 metres. Together with the forester, you and your friends can go and explore this exciting bunker complex. Make sure you take along a torch because it is very dark in there. In the winter bats go to hibernate in the bunkers. Unfortunately the complex is closed during winter months. So if you want to see the bats, make sure you visit in spring or September.
Children’s Walk with the Countess of The Hague
With the aid of a picture book, the Countess of The Hague will take you back in time. And show you what The Hague looked like in days gone by. During the walk in the old city centre, you will hear about the history of The Hague and its old buildings, and about everyday things. Naturally, you will also hear all about the famous Hague Jantje.
Omniversum
Looking for the ultimate adventure with your friends? Then join expedition Omniversum on a voyage of discovery. Explore coral reefs, swim with the dolphins, frolic with the chimpanzees or visit the most beautiful places on earth. And all of that on an impressive giant IMAX dome. Add some cake, lemonade and gifts for a birthday bash you’ll never forget!
Snowdome/De Uithof
Would you like to make winter the theme of your birthday party? Then Snowdome is the place to be. Take along your friends to the indoor ski slope and have fun in the snow. You can go skiing, snowboarding or snow tubing. Naturally, you can also attend some lessons, if you want. (Probably handy for those who have never practised any of these sports before). And all that exercise is bound gives you quite an appetite, so you can round off the outing with a proper kids’ meal.
Stoomgroep West Zuider Park
There are steam trains running on several tracks all over Zuider Park. Almost everything was made by members of the West Zuider Park Stoomgroep, not only the locomotives and carriages, but also the points, the station and even the signal boxes. If you have your birthday party here, the train is decorated from top to bottom and you can hop on and off as many times as you like for two hours.
